Southampton Rangers retained their Premier Division 50-overs title last weekend with victory over St George’s, now they will look to protect their unbeaten record when they travel to Sea Breeze Oval tomorrow to meet second-place team Bailey’s Bay.

Rangers have an unassailable 26-point lead over Bay going into their final two matches this weekend, against bottom team Flatts Victoria at Lord’s today and Bay tomorrow.

Bay have also played eight matches but there was no indication from the Bermuda Cricket Board this week that their August 4 match with St David’s, which was postponed, will be rescheduled. The season is scheduled to finish next weekend.

The promotion and relegation play-offs are scheduled for next Saturday, while the One Communications Premier and First Division Championships, between the top two teams in each division, is set for next Sunday.

Flatts and Cleveland, last season’s two promoted sides, are involved in the fight for survival, with just two points separating them at the foot of the table.

Flatts have two chances to leapfrog their Eastern Counties rivals and finish in the relegation play-off spot where they would meet the second-place team in the First Division.

Beating Rangers today will be a tall order for Flatts who then play St George’s tomorrow, while Cleveland play St David’s at Lord’s.

Willow Cuts are one more win away from all but securing the automatic promotion as First Division teams will be involved in matches today and tomorrow.

Cuts, who lead Somerset by 16 points, play Devonshire Recreation Club today at the Rec in their final match, while Somerset host Warwick today and then travel to White Hill Field to meet neighbours Somerset Bridge tomorrow.

Batting and bowling bonus points will be crucial for Somerset, otherwise they face having to get a win over either Cleveland County or Flatts next weekend in the play-offs to gain promotion.

In today’s other First Division match, Western Stars host Somerset Bridge at St John’s Field. Tomorrow, Stars are at home to Devonshire Rec while Warwick play PHC and Cuts have a bye.

n The Bermuda Masters will look to continue their dominance over the Jamaican Association in the Warrington “Soup” Zuill Memorial match when the two teams meet in the tenth annual match at Sea Breeze Oval on September 22, starting at noon. The Masters have won all nine matches so far.
