BSSF football finals to start on Friday night

The Middle School and Senior School Knockout Cup finals will take place over the next two days at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence.

The under-13s get the action under way on Friday night at 6.30pm when Warwick Academy will take on Somersfield Academy.

Warwick beat previously undefeated Saltus Grammar School 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out after their semi-final ended in a 2-2 draw. Warwick led twice in the match through Freddie Twite and Caleb Mello only for Saltus to equalise twice through Mackay Browne and Jace Postlethwaite.

In the other semi-final Somersfield beat Sandys Secondary Middle School 4-3 after Cairo Burgess scored a hat trick of free kicks. Jason Ngaruiya scored the other Somersfield goal.

The nightcap on Friday will feature the under-16 final between Saltus and Berkeley Green, who square off in a repeat of the recent six-a-side tournament. In the semi-finals, Berkeley overcame Warwick Academy 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 draw. Qash Lambert and Jeon Wolfe scored for Berkeley with Zydon Lightbourne Furbert netting both goals for Warwick.

Malik Paynter scored twice to lead Saltus to a 4-0 winner over CedarBridge Academy in their semi-final. Curtis Jackson and Saezjhor Dent were also on the scoresheet

Matches on Saturday start at 11am with the Middle School Girls Final between Warwick Academy and Bermuda High School.

BHS reached the final after beating Saltus in another penalty shoot-out. Sophie Tindill scored the lone goal for the winners with Ki’Ana Simmons scoring for Saltus. Warwick Academy had a walkover in the semi-final `

The Middle School Over-13 final will feature Saltus against Warwick at 12.30pm after both teams came through their semi-finals in convincing fashion.

Warwick defeated Whitney Institute 5-1 in their semi-final. Jahzari Ingham led Warwick with two goals while Deari Trott, Rory Fosker and Cillian McGlynn contributed a goal each. Adaj O’Brien scored the consolation for Whitney.

Chaz Edmead scored a hat trick to lead Saltus to a 6-0 win over Mount Saint Agnes Academy. Ta’han Eve added two goals for Saltus, who also benefited from an own goal.

The Senior School Girls final will kick off at 2pm with Berkeley Institute facing Saltus.

Berkeley overcame a spirited CedarBridge Academy team thanks to Keyandae Lightbourne, who scored the game’s only goal. Saltus defeated Warwick Academy 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out after the matched ended 2-2. Karis Brooks scored twice for Warwick with Milan Gibbons-Thomas scoring twice for Saltus.

The over-16 boys final finishes the feast of football off at 3.30pm, with Berkeley Institute featuring in their third senior school final of the weekend when they take on CedarBridge Academy.

Berkeley edged past Warwick in the semi-final thanks to Sinai Simons, who scored the game’s only goal. CedarBridge needed a penalty shoot-out to eliminate Saltus after their semi-final ended 1-1. Malik Paynter scored for Saltus with Dakari Smith-Zuill equalising for CedarBridge.
