Peace Collective organises Palestine solidarity event
An event is being organised by an activist and human rights group to show solidarity with the people of Palestine.
The event is to be hosted tomorrow by The Peace Collective and will run from noon until 3pm on the grounds of the Cabinet Office on Front Street.
A spokeswoman said it coincided with the annual observance of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
She said: “We thought it would nice to offer a sense of community for people who have been seeing what has been going on in Gaza and are horrified at the crisis and devastation.
“And they may want to show their solidarity with the Palestinian people.”
She added: “We are happy for anyone who wants to come by, so please stop by.
“We have been watching this crisis going on in Gaza for over a year now.
“We have seen reports that at least 44,000 people have died and of those, approximately 17,000 are children.”
However, she noted that the figure could be much higher, as reported by the weekly medical journal The Lancet.
She added: “It is very upsetting and we just want to offer a space for people who are upset by this to come together and show their solidarity with the Palestinian people at this time.”
