Kebobs on the Curve reopens
Kebobs on the Curve, the island’s Middle Eastern restaurant, has reopened with new chefs and an expanded menu.
Owners Chris and Elaine Lima, and a silent partner, opened the takeaway restaurant in May on Curving Avenue in Pembroke.
The original chefs from Morocco, brothers Sellami and Abdelali Hafid, did not work out and decided to head home, which prompted the temporary closure of the venue in mid-September.
New executive chef Nasser Elrouby, a 28-year veteran of hotel kitchens in his native Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Cyprus and Dubai, now heads food preparation with the assistance of chef Aryz Pettinglay, who has arrived from the Philippines.
The business also employs two Bermudian servers, plus a spouse of a Bermudian in that role, and a Bermudian who assists Ms Lima with design work.
Mr Lima said Mr Elrouby “has shown he knows what he’s doing and how to run a kitchen”.
Fifteen new items – including a mixture of wraps, kebabs, salads, loaded fries and a soup of the day – have been added to the menu.
Ms Lima said: “We are expecting a little bit more as well. We are working out what the public goes for in terms of the new items, and adjusting for newer items later on. These are tester menus right now.”
She said the new menu was partly dictated by the market, “but mostly chef-driven”.
Mr Lima added: “Mr Elrouby was eager to put his own stamp on the new menu.”
Kebobs on the Curve caters to the Muslim community on the island, as well as others with a love of Middle Eastern food.
The owners say all meats served at the restaurant are 100 per cent halal, meaning lawful or permitted according to Islamic dietary laws.
Mr Lima said: “We’re hoping that word will get out to people who will try us again, and to new customers who may have missed us the first time around.
“The menu is bigger, but it’s also better. The food is even better.”
Kebobs on the Curve is running a promotion on its social media channels through the end of the year. Anyone who follows, shares or talks about the business will be entered to win free food items.
