Bermuda Laser Clinic opens
A new skin care clinic has opened in Hamilton employing the latest laser technology for the treatment of medical conditions and aesthetic concerns.
Bermuda Laser Clinic opened on November 1 on the second floor of Cedar House on Cedar Avenue in the capital.
It is co-owned by advanced aesthetic practitioner Lizzy de Angelis, and Bermudian clinical director Andrew Spence, the overseeing physician at the practice.
Ms de Angelis has been a clinical dietitian for 20 years, treating skin from the inside out, and continues in that role.
She has now added to her scientific understanding of nutrition by becoming certified in laser, skin and rejuvenation treatments at a facility on Bond Street in London so that she can now also treat skin from the outside in.
Ms de Angelis said: “I was used to treating people for eczema, psoriasis and wound healing as part of nutrition and became interested in how I can treat skin from the outside in.
“To get the best results, you must look not only at what someone is putting on their skin from the outside, but what medications they are taking, what their diet is like, and what supplements they take because inflammation from their diet can affect their skin.
“That’s what we mean by a holistic approach to skin care, looking at skin from the inside out and from the outside in.
“That is the ‘gut-skin axis’, which can work both ways. The gut can affect your skin, and vice versa.”
The clinic offers laser treatments for a wide variety of medical conditions and aesthetic concerns and can treat anywhere on the body.
The facility also offers precision micro-needling to treat issues including scarring, acne and skin rejuvenation.
Ms de Angelis said: “I have had several clients say they used to have to go to New York for the treatments that are now offered here.”
She added that the practice would evolve to deliver treatments that clients on the island want.
So far, Ms de Angelis said, the skin treatments most often requested are hyperpigmentation [patches of skin are darker than the surrounding skin] including melasma, age-spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by any combination of sun exposure, hormones, inflammation, or trauma to the skin such as acne scarring or medications.
Treatment for scarring, from surgical scars to acne scars, and skin rejuvenation, including rosacea [reddened skin], fine lines, skin tightening and open pores, have also been popular.
Care is delivered with the use of the US-made Aerolase Neo Elite laser, which Ms de Angelis calls “the gold standard” in medical lasers and said was safe for all skin colours and types.
“The laser delivers very precisely without heating up the surrounding skin. There is no contact with the skin, there is no downtime, no anaesthetic, and no cooling needed.
“It feels like a warm sensation on the skin. It’s very comfortable but very powerful.”
Clients first attend an initial consultation to discuss their concerns with Ms de Angelis, who suggests a treatment plan.
Treatments, delivered discreetly, can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes, and cost from $150 to $400 per session. A range of skin concerns can be treated in the same session.
Clients are advised to be prepared for a course of treatment over several sessions.
Sessions are available seven days a week on an appointment basis.
