Jutorre Burgess was the toast of the dressing room after coming off the bench to snatch a late winner as Harborough Town edged ten-man Biggleswade Town 3-2 in a heated Southern League Premier Division Central clash at Carlsberg Stadium on Tuesday night.

The teenage winger entered the fray in the 70th minute and officially opened his account two minutes later with a winner that finally settled a cagey and controversial affair.

Burgess was understandably delighted to be introduced and make such a big impact on the match.

“It was an amazing feeling to watch the ball hit the back of the net for my first professional goal,” the former Hamilton Parish player told The Royal Gazette.

“Coach Corey [Hill] had been talking with me about the importance of manifesting before games. So I imagined myself scoring a goal, and it was unbelievable really just to come on and score the winner.”

Riley O’Sullivan gave Harborough the lead in the 23rd minute before Biggleswade forward Florian Tsaguim equalised from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time to leave the teams tied at the break.

O’Sullivan restored Harborough’s lead two minutes after the restart but the home side were back on even terms again when forward Daniel Izekor levelled the scores six minutes later.

Bottom side Biggleswade were reduced to ten men in the 58th minute when captain Charlie Briggs was sent off and Harborough capitalised on their numerical advantage when substitute Burgess popped up with the winner.

And while the 18-year-old took the glory, he hailed his team’s resilience.

“This just shows the team’s grit and determination,” he said.

“There is many more blessings to come for this sensational team that I am over the moon to be a part of.”

Harborough Town are seventeenth in the 22-team standings, hovering just above the relegation zone on goal difference, with 23 points from 19 games and six wins under their belt.

Mitch Austin’s team made club history after reaching the second round of the Emirates FA Cup, the farthest they have ever reached in the oldest football competition in the world, when they lost 5-3 away to Sky Bet League One outfit Reading this month.
