Employees of BermudAir have completed specialised autism awareness and sensitivity training, the airline has announced.

BermudAir has been certified by Autism Double-Checked, a Connecticut-headquartered organisation that helps the travel industry prepare for autistic guests.

The airline said the certification was “a significant step” in fostering an inclusive travel environment.

“The airline’s certification demonstrates its dedication to creating stress-free and accessible journeys for travellers with autism and their families,” it added.

“Achieving ADC certification is a meaningful accomplishment for BermudAir as we continue to refine the experience we offer all our guests,” said Adam Scott, the airline’s chief executive and founder.

“Through our partnership with Autism Double-Checked, we look forward to amplifying support for the global autism community and making a positive impact that extends beyond the skies.”

BermudAir announced its support for Tomorrow’s Voices, which is dedicated to autism awareness and early intervention. The airline said it would collaborate with the organisation to amplify its impact and help empower Bermuda’s autism community.

Jahnae Harvey, the executive director at Tomorrow’s Voices, said: “I am excited that BermudAir has achieved this important milestone. By striving to create an autism-friendly travel experience, BermudAir is setting a standard for inclusive travel.”

Thea Furbert, the cofounder and board chairwoman of Tomorrow’s Voices, said: “I commend BermudAir for their commitment to ensuring autism awareness and training are part of their operations.

“This initiative will create a ripple effect, positively impacting not only individuals diagnosed with autism but also their families.

“Incorporating sensitivity and autism awareness into their training process is a significant step towards a more inclusive travel experience for all.

“We look forward to this ongoing partnership with BermudAir as we educate, empower, and serve those with neurodiverse needs in the Bermuda community.”
