A global service organisation shared warm holiday cheer when it donated home supplies and clothing accessories to two charities.

The Kiwanis Club of Hamilton stayed true to its plans this year and donated 1,969 pairs of socks to The Salvation Army at an event on December 10.

It was more than treble the number handed over in last year’s donation by the club to the charity.

The Kiwanis club said the items were received through donations from its members, their families and friends.

In another goodwill gesture, it donated a quantity of home items to Teen Services and Teen Haven.

The items included food and storage containers as well as bed and bath items such as new beddings and towels.

Over the years the club said it has enjoyed a “very caring relationship” with Teen Services.

It said it adopted the charity as its signature project in keeping with its motto of “serving the children of the world”.

The club said it was happy to support charities, especially those which cater to the needs of mothers and their children throughout the year.

Wendy Augustus, the executive director of Teen Services, said: “Kiwanis has been a long term supporter of us and we are continually grateful for their ongoing support.”

The Pembroke facility, for young women and their children, has 11 rooms for accommodation and nine are occupied.
