Goals galore in First Division Shield quarter-finals
There were some high-scoring games in the First Division Shield at the weekend.
The action began on Saturday with Boulevard Blazers twice coming from behind to beat Southampton Rangers 3-2 at PHC Field.
Rangers took an early lead when Sijay Samuels scored in the fifth minute, but Boulevard equalised in the second minute of first-half stoppage time through Kenfari Swan. Jakeem Jenkins restored Rangers’ lead in the 54th minute, only for Ernest Reiko Trott to level again five minutes later.
With extra time looming, Boulevard’s Jah’Zion Talbot-Thomas struck in the 82nd minute with the decisive goal to send his side through to the semi-finals.
Sunday afternoon featured more drama at Southampton Oval, where Somerset Trojans overcame Vasco da Gama 4-2 after extra time.
Jaire Shields was the hero for Trojans, netting a hat-trick, including the final goal in the dying moments of extra time. Jadan Ratteray-Smith opened the scoring for Somerset in the 20th minute, with Shields doubling the lead in the 57th. Vasco rallied with goals from Kwanjae Thompson in the 64th minute and Ryan Lopes, who equalised in the 90th minute.
Despite the setback, Trojans responded well. Shields restored their lead in the 114th minute before sealing victory with one of the final actions of the match.
At Wellington Oval, Robin Hood defeated St David’s 2-0, with goals from Xahvi DeRoza in the 77th minute and Cairo Tucker in the sixth minute of added time.
The semi-final draw pits Boulevard against Somerset Eagles, with their match scheduled for Boxing Day at Wellington Oval. Robin Hood will take on Somerset Trojans at PHC Field on December 27.
