Sandys Rotary Club donates more than $20,000

The West End chapter of a service club spread $21,500 in donations over three charities for the holiday season.

Sandys Rotary Club gave $7,000 to Denise Carey, the director of the homelessness charity Home, and Leslie Grant, the executive director of Focus Counselling Services.

Captain Dennis Maybury, of The Salvation Army, later received $7,500.

The cash donated to Home and Focus Counselling Services came from a raffle organised by the club on October 30.

Antoine Lightbourne, the president of Sandys Rotary Club, presented the cheques to Home and Focus Counselling Service during a Christmas dinner on December 11.

The Salvation Army received its donation on December 17 as a show of support to its board of directors.

A spokesman for Sandys Rotary Club said: “Sandys Rotary thanks the community for its support in purchasing raffle tickets, which has enabled us to assist these charities that provide innovative solutions to pressing social challenges in Bermuda.”
