A Cabinet minister said that she was inspired by young adults who dedicated their time to support the next generation.

Tinée Furbert’s comments came after a government programme offered educational activities for children during the winter break.

The out-of-school scheme was overseen by the Office of Youth Affairs. It ran from December 23 last year to January 3 and catered for children of all ages.

Ms Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, explained: “This programme is not just about keeping children engaged during the holidays — it’s about nurturing their potential and fostering a sense of community.

“I was especially inspired by the young adults who are dedicating their time to support the next generation.

“To those studying youth development, teaching or related fields, know that your work matters.”

Ms Furbert visited sites across the island where the programme ran.

During her visits, she met children, staff and young volunteers who supported the scheme.

The energy and enthusiasm of the students, coupled with the dedication of the young adults studying in youth-focused fields, left a lasting impression, a spokeswoman said.

She added: “From the Globetrotters pilot programme for preschoolers to the Job Readiness Programme for senior school students, the initiative ensures children of all ages have access to enriching and supervised activities during the winter break.”

Ms Furbert thanked the staff of the youth affairs office for their commitment to the programme and added: “Your continued dedication is greatly appreciated.”

She also thanked the administration of Dellwood Middle School for allowing use of the school’s facilities for the central primary and preschool programme.

The spokeswoman said such partnerships and collaborations promoted community spirit and allowed the ministry to cater for more children whose parents needed childcare options during the winter breaks.
