David Burt has thanked the Governor for her determination and advocacy as she prepares to bid farewell to Bermuda.

Rena Lalgie is due to officially depart on January 14 and the Premier hosted a special dinner at Camden House for her on Tuesday evening.

A weekly meeting between Ms Lalgie and Mr Burt took place for the final time today at Los Zorros, Paget, the temporary location of Government House.

The Premier said: “The Bermuda welcome afforded this governor was one featuring a mask mandate and social distancing such that the witnesses to her swearing-in were stood in the four corners of the drawing room at Government House.

“Thankfully, things did change and on abandoning our masks and returning to social gatherings, we met a woman with a determination to serve and ensure her best service every day of this tenure.

“I have always found in Governor Lalgie a genuine willingness to understand the Bermuda position and, where possible, she has advocated for us in London and beyond.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda, we extend our sincere thanks for her service as we prepare to wish her a fond farewell.”

Ms Lalgie was appointed Governor of Bermuda in December 2020. She was the first Black person and the first woman to hold the post.
