Radar offline as technical team works on sporadic fault
The weather radar is temporarily out of service as a result of an “intermittent fault”.
Jamie Sapsford, the chief operating officer at the Bermuda Airport Authority, said: “The weather radar system has developed an intermittent fault, which is different to that which caused the system outage in October.
“Troubleshooting continues and the system has been removed from service as a precaution to prevent more significant system damage.
“The system may be returned to service in order to help support the Bermuda Weather Service team, as required.
“Operating without a weather radar poses no risk to the public or aviation users and BWS is able to continue to provide its full range of products and services without weather radar data.
“The Bermuda Airport Authority requests the public’s patience whilst our technical team works with the system vendor in Germany to return the system to full service.”
The BWS is a section of BAA's Aviation Services Delivery Unit.
The Doppler radar system was commissioned in October 2019 and is about a third of the way through its 15-year life cycle.
