Girl, 18, confirmed as first road fatality of 2025
The island has recorded its first road fatality of the year after an 18-year-old female succumbed to her injuries in the wake of a crash in Paget on Friday afternoon.
According to police, the collision happened on Middle Road near the junction with Manse Road at about 2.30pm.
The incident involved a motorcycle and at least one other vehicle.
A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said that the teenager was seriously injured as a result of the collision, and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance.
Tonight, a police spokesman confirmed that the teenager had died as a result of her injuries.
The spokesman said: “The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the 18-year-old female motorcycle rider injured in a serious road traffic collision has sadly succumbed to her injuries.”
Last year seven people were killed as a result of crashes on Bermuda’s roads, prompting police to claim that the island could be “set to become one of the deadliest places to drive in the world”.
Both police and The Royal Gazette have launched campaigns in recent years in a bid to crack down on poor driving habits.
The BPS launched Operation Vega in 2021 in an effort to curb speeding and driving under the influence.
The initiative was mirrored by the Gazette’s Drive For Change campaign, which was partnered by A Piece of the Rock.
An investigation into the latest fatality continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Constable Deforest Evans on 717-0860 or via e-mail at devans@bps.bm.
