Several roads to close for weekend race events
Roads across the island will be affected this weekend as the Bermuda Triangle Challenge takes place.
The Ministry of Public Works said that the first closure is scheduled for Friday and will impact traffic from Front Street to Spurling Hill for the Butterfield Mile.
The area will be closed from 6pm to 10pm, and westbound traffic will be diverted up Spurling Hill and along Reid Street during that time.
The weekend’s second race, the BF&M 10K and 5K Run and Walk, will take place on Saturday.
The 10K is to set off from Frog Lane at 9am, continue on Montpelier Road to Middle Road, then towards Flatts Village.
Participants will then head west on North Shore Road on to Palmetto Road, to Frog Lane and finish at the National Sports Centre.
The 5K race will also start at Frog Lane but runners in that event will change course at the junction of Middle Road and Parsons Lane.
They will head along Parsons Lane and Barkers Hill, past the Ocean View Golf Course, until the junction of the Railway Trail.
They will then turn right and head east along the trail, turn around and head west to rejoin the 10K race on Palmetto Road.
Stretches of Parsons Road, Montpelier Road, Frog Lane, Palmetto Road, Old Military Road and Middle Road will be closed to all traffic between 8.45am and 10.15am.
The eastbound lane along Middle Road, from Verdmont Road to Flatts Village near Harrington Sound Road will also be closed.
No westbound traffic will be allowed along North Shore Road to the Barkers Hill roundabout, and on parts of Palmetto Road and BFA Way during this time.
Parking in areas at Parsons Road, Frog Lane, BFA Way, Fort Hill Road, Flatts Village, Frog Lane and Montpelier Road will be closed between 8am and 11am.
The race weekend will conclude with the PwC Bermuda Marathon, half-marathon and half-marathon relay events on Sunday.
Marathon runners will start at Camber Road in Dockyard and head to Dockyard Terrace through to Maritime Lane, then Smitherly Lane and head west along Clocktower Parade to Freeport Drive.
They will head to Malabar Road and onwards to Middle Road.
Runners will cross over from Middle Road at Barnes Corner to South Road and head through Southampton, Warwick and Paget along South Road.
They will head to Devil’s Hole Hill in Smith’s, continue on North Shore Road to Spanish Point and finish at Barr’s Bay Park in Hamilton.
All roads in Dockyard will be closed from 6am to 7.45am, and several roadways east to South Road’s junction with Middle Road in Southampton will be closed periodically between 6am and 9am.
No eastbound traffic will be allowed from South Road’s junction with Middle Road in Southampton to its junction with Devil’s Hole Hill from 7.15am to 11.15am.
The half-marathon and relay will start at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club at 7am.
Runners will continue to Trimingham Road, on to South Road to Devil’s Hole Hill, towards Harrington Sound and North Shore Road and also end at Barr’s Bay Park.
Pitts Bay Road, between Bermudiana Road and the Hamilton Princess, will be closed between 7.30am and 3pm.
Flora Duffy Hill, between Middle Road and Crow Lane in Paget, will be closed from 8.30am to 10am.
Trimingham Road, between the north and south roundabouts, will also be closed to traffic during the same time on Sunday.
The ministry authorised the Bermuda Police Service to close or open any other streets as determined by the police commissioner.
