The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute has unveiled a new leader for its educational wing.

Summer Wood will be in charge of educational programme management and curriculum co-ordination — while also leading fundraising programmes.

Ms Wood said: “I am thrilled to join this dynamic team and promote the connection between learning and doing through BUEI’s robust education programmes.

“I have held many different roles in education and I am excited to contribute my passion as an educator to BUEI’s impactful delivery of ocean literacy and environmental education programmes for students of all ages across the island.”

Ms Wood brings several years of varied experience to the role.

She led multiple departments as an International Baccalaureate middle years programme co-ordinator at Somersfield Academy.

Ms Wood co-chaired the Student Diversity Leadership Conference and helped to create multiple student group projects on impactful causes.

She has worked with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme and led Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo camps, which the BUEI said reflected her commitment to environmental education.

Karla Lacey, the chief executive of the BUEI, said: “We are incredibly enthusiastic about welcoming Summer to the BUEI team.

“Her passion and demonstrated skill in educational leadership and her commitment to inspiring a love for the planet perfectly align with BUEI’s mission.”
