The president of Mount Saint Vincent University in Canada is to visit Bermuda for an alumni reunion.

Joël Dickinson will be at the event on January 23 at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.

Aris Hernandez, the MSVU international student recruitment officer, and Shannah Butterfield, an MSVU Alumni Association board member from Bermuda, will also attend.

There will be speeches, including a welcome from Chandrika Sanghi, MSVU’s manager of alumni relations.

Prospective students are also invited to attend the gathering, which will run from 5pm to 7pm.

Dr Dickinson said: “I’m delighted to be returning to Bermuda to grow our relationships there, including with our valued alumni and partners like Bermuda College, while exploring new opportunities for students in the region to be part of the MSVU community.

“In my school visits, I look forward to hearing directly from students about their postsecondary interests and any barriers they may be facing to achieving their education goals.

“We are fortunate to have a Bermuda alumna sitting on our Alumni Association Board, currently Shannah Butterfield. Many other alumni from Bermuda continue to be engaged with MSVU.

“This is my second time travelling to Bermuda as president of MSVU but this is not my first time in Bermuda. I have a family connection here and I love this island. My wife, Carla John, is from Bermuda and she also happens to be an alum of MSVU.

“We’re deeply proud of our strong alumni community in Bermuda and look forward to gathering with them and meeting with prospective students.”

Ms Butterfield, an MSVU alumni and member of the alumni board, said she is excited that MSVU is returning to Bermuda for the annual event.

She said: “It's always great to connect with fellow alumni and also meet new alumni in Bermuda.

“Bermuda has a longstanding relationship with Mount Saint Vincent, and it is great to have the university continue to recognise and maintain this connection.

“I encourage all alumni to attend this worthwhile event.”
