Love Is Love boosts two charities with donations
An organisation that supports the LGBTQ+ community has backed several local charities, thanks to a fundraiser, and plans are afoot to do more.
Love is Love, which hosts and promotes events for gay people and their allies, presented gift cards to Home and the Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation on Wednesday as a result of money raised at its Oktoberfest event on September 29.
The group was able to raise $1,000, matched by the Island Restaurant Group for a total of $2,000.
Home received $1,000 worth of gift cards for The Marketplace/Price Rite and The Phoenix Stores, split evenly.
The Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation received $1,000 worth of gift cards for The Stationery Store and Bermuda Bookstore.
The support followed a previous donation from Love is Love of $1,500 worth of gift cards from The Marketplace and Belco on December 24 to Bermuda Foster Parents Association for foster parents in need over the holidays.
Those funds were raised at the group’s Ugly Sweater Brunch at Bolero Brasserie on December 8.
Christopher Douglas, a cofounder of Love Is Love, said: “We are always grateful to donate to charities and will continue to do so for our upcoming Pre-Valentine’s Sunday Funday event on February 9 from noon to 5pm at Rosa’s Cantina.
“The event will feature a charity raffle, where proceeds raised will be donated to Tomorrow’s Voices, an early intervention centre for children with autism and developmental disabilities.
“Prizes will be announced closer to the date.”
• Tickets for the event are $15 until January 31 and will increase to $25 from February 1. They are available on www.ptix.bm
