A school for students who learn differently has announced that applications for its 2025-26 Teacher Mentorship Programme are now open.

The Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning launched the two-year programme in 2020.

It aims to empower educators to specialise in addressing the needs of students with language-based learning differences such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD.

It is open to Bermudians, spouses of Bermudians and permanent resident certificate holders who hold a bachelor’s degree in education, have completed at least 12 weeks of student teaching, and are eligible for a Bermuda Educators Council teacher’s licence.

Participants will work alongside masters-level teachers in a paid mentorship programme that includes health insurance, while they gain “invaluable skills in a flexible and personalised learning environment”, the organisation said.

Cindy Corday, the head of school at BCCL, explained: “Our mentorship programme goes beyond teaching — it builds a foundation for educators to create inclusive, supportive classrooms where students with diverse learning needs can thrive.

“This programme is a testament to our commitment to both students and educators, empowering teachers to make lasting changes in their communities.”

According to the US-based National Centre for Learning Disabilities, one in five children face learning and attention challenges.

BCCL said that in Bermuda, that translated to an estimated 1,694 children who may need additional educational support.

A spokeswoman added: “Through the Teacher Mentorship Programme, BCCL is equipping teachers with the skills to make a meaningful difference for these students.”
