Chamber seeks new CEO
The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce called for a “visionary leader” to be its new chief executive.
It said that the "pivotal role“ would provide strategic leadership and operational management to make sure that the organisation continued to represent the interests of island businesses and foster a thriving environment for commerce.
Marico Thomas, president of the chamber’s board of directors, said: “The chamber is seeking a visionary leader who can guide the organisation’s strategic direction, advocate on behalf of its diverse membership and develop innovative programmes to support.
“We’re looking for someone who can build on our strong foundation while charting a forward-thinking course to meet the evolving needs of our members.”
The chamber was formed in 1906 and comprises about 500 members from almost every industry in Bermuda.
The chief executive’s responsibilities include managing the chamber’s operations, advancing its mission, representing members’ interests and working with the board of directors and other stakeholders.
The chamber said: “This is a unique opportunity for a dynamic and results-driven professional to lead one of Bermuda’s most respected organisations and contribute to the growth and success of the island’s business community.”
Applicants should have at least ten years’ experience in business, non-profit or financial management, a business-related university degree and excellent communication skills.
They must also show good financial acumen, strong interpersonal, leadership, organisational and presentation skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
An advertisement for the position came three months after Danielle Riviere, the Chamber’s former chief executive, was terminated from the post for “serious misconduct relating to financial matters”.
Ms Riviere, who was appointed chief executive in January 2023, said later that she transferred just over $15,000 to a personal account “in a moment of weakness and desperation”.
A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said that the matter remained under investigation.
