Chris Bean joins brother Ci’re in independent run up west
An advocate for stronger social welfare for Bermudians will run as an independent candidate in the General Election.
Christopher Bean has confirmed his candidacy for Sandys North Central (Constituency 35) on a campaign that targets social change, including the enhancement of health and disability services.
He intends to provide more support to the island’s seniors through the development of sustainable plans to address their needs and the reduction of red tape, which impedes them from accessing vital services.
Mr Bean, who was born and raised in Somerset, also intends to address antisocial behaviour issues in the constituency by identifying the needs of the community.
He plans to address the root causes of issues and prioritise the implementation of prevention programmes and initiatives.
Mr Bean decided to run as an independent candidate because he wants to be a true voice for the people, free from party constraints.
He said: “Having held management positions and witnessed Bermuda’s state first hand, I see how people are suffering and feeling neglected.
“Growing up in the community I aim to represent, I’ve been deeply involved in charitable endeavours, striving to make a meaningful impact.
“However, I believe that to create lasting change, it’s essential to have a sustainable legislative impact.”
He said as an independent representative, he would be able to consult and support issues without party pressure, with his constituents’ needs in mind.
Mr Bean said that he recognised that many Bermudians were dissatisfied with the representation they had received from the island’s politicians.
He added: “I understand the frustrations that come with feeling unheard or overlooked.
“I want to emphasise that I have deep respect for both political parties and the rich history they each carry — their struggles and victories have shaped the Bermuda we know today.
“I am not here to point fingers or assign blame; rather, I am committed to being a catalyst for positive change.”
He said his goal was to bring a “fresh, people-first approach” to the political scene, one which prioritised unity, accountability and meaningful progress for the community.
Mr Bean is the brother of Ci’re Bean, another independent candidate, who ran in the Sandys North by-election last September.
He said: “My brother is also running independently in the neighbouring constituency and, together, we believe in restoring the unity and strength of our shared community and Bermuda as a whole.
“We are committed to working alongside our constituents to build a future that reflects the values and aspirations of all Bermudians, ensuring that no one is left behind.”
Mr Bean is the director of operations at Payakid, a charity that provides employment and skills development opportunities for youth.
He serves as board chair at Beyond Inclusion, a charity focused on providing social engagement opportunities for individuals with support needs.
He is also a member of Bermuda Is Love, a charity that is dedicated to meeting the basic needs of individuals.
