A former One Bermuda Alliance member who was expelled from the party last year will be announced as an independent candidate for the 2025 General Election today.

Vic Ball will be joined by the Mstira Weeks as the pair are rolled out for Pembroke South West (Constituency 20) and Devonshire South Central (Constituency 12).

Their roll-out will be held at Evolve, a bar that they co-own in Bermudiana Arcade in Hamilton.

Mr Ball made waves last December after he was ousted from the party in a public spat after comments he made to The Royal Gazette.

He spoke on his removal as a candidate for Smith’s West (Constituency 9), which he represented for the OBA during the 2020 General Election.

Mr Ball lost the candidacy in favour of Vance Campbell, who won the seat for the Progressive Labour Party in 2020 by 432 votes to 403.

Mr Campbell crossed the floor to the Opposition in August last year.

Mr Ball said that he had pushed for a primary election to be held between the two, which was eventually agreed upon.

However, he was informed two days before a business trip that the election would be held during his absence.

Mr Ball accused the party of purposefully holding the primary election while he was away and informing him of the move without giving him ample time to appoint someone to represent him.

He said the move violated the party’s constitution and jeopardised Bermuda’s democratic system.

Jarion Richardson, leader of the party, said that Mr Ball was released over comments that were “derogatory to, and defamed the character of, other party members without cause”.

He further alleged that Mr Ball breached OBA policy on communication, canvassing and attendance, as well as failing to maintain financial membership.

Mr Ball will go up against Iesha Musson for the PLP in the fight for Pembroke South West.

Susan Jackson, a former OBA MP, held the constituency since the party’s victory in 2012, but announced her retirement from politics on January 18.

The OBA has not yet announced a replacement for Ms Jackson.

Ms Weeks will face off against Craig Cannonier, who won Devonshire South Central for the OBA in 2020 in a four-way fight with Lindsay Simmons, for the PLP, Patrice Minors, for the Free Democratic Movement, and Marilyn Steede, an independent candidate.
