Drivers banned from roads

Three motorists were each disqualified from driving for 18 months when their cases were heard in Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Carlos Arruda, 55, and Gaute Juliussen, 59, admitted driving while impaired by alcohol, while Keilo Govia, 41, pleaded guilty to not taking a breath test.

The court heard that police smelt alcohol on Arruda’s breath when they stopped him in Smith’s on December 31.

Arruda, from Paget, admitted drinking before driving and was taken to the Hamilton Police Station.

Police stopped Juliussen, from Sandys, hours later after he rode past a sobriety checkpoint on Crow Lane.

Juliussen was unsteady on his feet and was taken to the Hamilton Police Station.

The court then heard that police questioned Govia, from Pembroke, on Harbour Road on January 20 and took him to the police station, but he declined several times to take a breath test.

In addition to being banned, the men were fined $1,500.
