Students at CedarBridge Academy built custom chairs for island preschools.

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Education said S1 to S3 pupils in introduction to trades classes constructed the chair frames from PVC pipes and learnt sewing skills from students in a textiles course.

Wilbur Lowe III, who teaches introduction to trades, said the school planned to donate the chairs to nurseries and preschools, and thanked businesses that provided materials for the project.

Crystal Caesar, who was the Acting Minister of Education and visited the pupils last week, explained: “This project provides a snapshot of the awesome work and skills taught within our senior school signature learning programmes.

“It was a pleasure to see the students enthusiastically working together on the design and construction of the toddler chairs.”

Principal Kenneth Caesar said the project exemplified the school’s “commitment to fostering practical skills, creativity and community involvement through its SLP courses”.

He added: “By integrating diverse disciplines like plumbing, design and textiles, students gain valuable hands-on experience that prepares them for future academic and career pursuits.”

Mr Caesar thanked Mr Lowe and textiles teacher Golda DeMattos for spearheading the project.
