Warwick II keep title defence on track
Warwick II beat hosts Spanish Point Boat Club II to keep their title defence on track in the last round of snooker league action.
Henryk Marszalek put the visitors in front after taking out rival Richard Burton in the first frame, 62-32
Steven Bremar, the Warwick captain, then overcame Point’s Tyler Moniz 56-15 in the second to extend the champion’s lead.
Zane DeSilva provided he and his fellow Warwick team-mates with more breathing room after dispatching Alan Smith 52-10 in the first of their two frames together to make it 3-0.
Point finally got on the board when Smith defeated DeSilva in the second frame between the pair.
Bremar then teamed up with Marszalek to beat Moniz and Burton in doubles to cap Warwick’s comfortable victory.
Elsewhere, hosts Royal Artillery Association came from behind to beat Warwick Workmen’s Club I 3-2.
The visitors took the early lead after Gary Bascome got the better of Aaron Bean 77-31 in the first of their two frames.
Winslow Smith then extended Warwick’s lead after dispatching Kenya Trot, the RAA captain, 63-30.
Keino Zuill got RAA on the board after seeing off Warwick’s Keith Smith convincingly.
Bean then levelled the series when he took down rival Bascome 80-42 in the second of their two frames.
With everything to play for, Zuill and Trott beat rivals Keith and Winslow Smith 59-38 in the deciding doubles contest.
In Tony DeSilva Memorial Cup first round action, Richard Burton beat Kyle Williams 2-1 at Spanish Point and will now face defending champion Bremar in the next round.
Also advancing in the competition was Stephen Tucker after edging Jimmy McGill 2-1 in another close affair at Spanish Point. Tucker will now take on Matt Garrod in the second round.
John Orr beat Tony Dawson 2-1 at the same venue and will now do battle with the eventual winner of the contest between Stewart Greenslade and Winslow Smith in the next round.
Matt Garrod beat Gary Bascome 2-1 at Warwick Workmen’s Club to set up second round meeting with Stephen Tucker.
Martin Siese also advanced after prevailing against Paul Fedden 2-1 at Sandys Boat Club. Seise will now square off against Todd Dziak in the next round.
Zane DeSilva beat Pamela Quadroy 2-1 at Warwick Workmen’s Club and will now face Chris Dakin in the second round.
Aaron Burrows beat Mark Iris 2-0 at Sandys Boat Club to also advance in the next round where he will face Nadanja Bailey.
Henryk Marszalek prevailed against Alan Smith 2-0 at Spanish Point and will now do battle with Keino Zuill in the next round.
In the opening round of the Keen Cup, Sandys Boat Club edged hosts RAA 3-2 and will now take on Spanish Point Boat Club I in the semi-final. RAA are already through to the final.
In the Mike Zimmerman Team Challenge semi-final, hosts RAA beat WWC1 3-2 to earn the right to face Sandys Boat Club in the final.
