An award-winning writer will lead a series of workshops at the Bermuda National Library.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Culture said Nailah Imoja will help local authors to refine their work during the writers-in-residence programme.

The free programme, titled “Writing as magic: Crafting fiction from concept to creation”, will run from February 19 to March 8.

Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, said the programme “continues to provide an invaluable opportunity for Bermudian writers to hone their craft under the mentorship of renowned literary figures”.

He added: “We are delighted to welcome Ms Imoja to Bermuda and look forward to seeing the creative works that emerge from this initiative.”

Workshop dates and times

February 19 and 20: 6pm to 8.30pm

February 22: 10am to 12.30pm

February 25 and 27: 6pm to 8.30pm

March 1: 10am to 12.30pm

March 4 and 6: 6pm to 8.30pm

All workshops will take place at the Bermuda National Library on Queen Street.

Ms Imoja has written 13 novellas, performed her poetry in several countries and led workshops produced by the Barbados National Cultural Foundation for more than 15 years.

She is also a schoolteacher and won the Frank Collymore Literary Endowment competition in Barbados last month.

Spaces for the programme are limited, so applicants must submit a one-page writing sample to culture@gov.bm by February 12.
