Great backyard bird count is on
The Bermuda Audubon Society is encouraging residents to show their love of birds by taking part in the Great Backyard Bird Count 2025.
The event from today to Monday is part of a global effort to increase appreciation of birds.
A society spokeswoman said participants can identify the birds in their area for at least 15 minutes and submit a list of what is seen to www.ebird.org.
“Then repeat if you wish. You don’t need to be an expert or even have binoculars,” she added.
Last year more than 500,000 people participated from 210 countries and 7,920 species were reported.
Detailed instructions for participants can be found at www.birdcount.org
Tools that may be helpful are the eBird Mobile App and the Merlin Bird ID App which helps participants to identify birds by sound and photographs.
Participants are also encouraged to showcase pictures of birds, themselves and others birdwatching in their favourite places in their submissions.
Results will be posted on the society’s website.
