Man denies importing pepper spray

A man was accused in court of bringing a can of pepper spray into Bermuda.

O’Neil Nelson, 48, denied importing the spray, which was “designed or adapted for the discharge of a noxious liquid or gas”, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Mr Nelson, from Smith’s, also pleaded not guilty to importing one prohibited knife and possessing another.

Mr Nelson, whom the court heard was a member of the Royal Bermuda Regiment, allegedly committed the offences on April 27.

Magistrate Auralee Cassidy adjourned the case to March 24 and released Mr Nelson on $5,000 bail with a surety until that time.
