Nic Narraway finishes best of team in first race in Spain
Cyclist Nic Narraway opened his 2025 season on Sunday with a solid performance at the Circuito Guadiana in Don Benito, Spain, the first round of the Copa España Élite-U23 series.
Competing for Tenerife-BikePoint-LaSedeBicycles, Narraway finished 63rd but just 28 seconds behind the winner, in a challenging 165.5km race which featured nearly half the field unable to finish due to high speeds and multiple crashes.
The fast-paced race featured a breakaway of 15 riders, later reeled in by the peloton before a final attack resulted in four riders going clear in the closing kilometres. Narraway crossed the line in the main group, finishing as the top rider for his team and demonstrating resilience after a recent minor training crash.
“It was good to get the season under way,” Narraway said.
“I’ll admit I there was a lot of emotions joining a new team and it being my first race of the season, but this was a solid start. There were a lot of crashes in today’s race, and after coming off my bike last week during training, I was likely not as confident as I could have been.”
Narraway, 22, is contracted with Benicadell Cycling Foundation for the 2025 season and will continue racing the Spanish Cup Series as part of the Tenerife-BikePoint-LaSedeBicycles squad.
