Man charged with cannabis smuggling
A Pembroke man has been accused of smuggling more than $1 million worth of cannabis resin into the island.
Ty Lawes, 19, was charged in Magistrates’ Court yesterday with importing cannabis resin on July 20, 2023, along with possessing cannabis resin with intent to supply.
Mr Lawes was not required to enter a plea, as the matter will be heard by the Supreme Court.
The court heard that the case involved more than 16kg of cannabis resin, worth between $1 million and $3.3 million.
Magistrate Auralee Cassidy released Mr Lawes on $50,000 bail with a surety, ordering that he surrender his travel documents, report regularly to Hamilton Police Station and not leave the island without the leave of the court.
The matter is expected to appear before the Supreme Court on April 1.
