Time running out to register young athletes for Skyport Magic Mile
More than 432 young runners have already registered to take part in the Skyport Magic Mile on Saturday.
Registration is open until midnight on Friday and organisers are hopeful that number will be doubled by the time the deadline passes.
The 2025 event will be the 28th edition of the Magic Mile and the seventh sponsored by Skyport, with its head of brand development and communication, Nikki Fagan, speaking of her company’s delight at backing the event at a press conference on Wednesday.
“Skyport is proud to be the sponsor of the Magic Mile, for the seventh year” she said.
“This event is more than just a race, it’s about confidence, resilience and giving young athletes the chance to shine.
“At Skyport we spend a lot of time connecting Bermuda to the world and we get to watch Pacers athletes travel to and from their international meets but this is where it all starts.
“Because the Skyport Magic Mile are as young as four years old, this is where young runners often take their first steps towards athletic greatness and building a love for competition.
“As operators of Bermuda’s airport, we are passionate about investing in our community and supporting opportunities that inspire the next generation. We are excited to cheer on the runners and we look forward to an incredible day of community and competitions.”
Kareem Richardson, chief operating officer of sponsors Security Associates, is thrilled to be associated with such a longstanding event.
“Our company has a passion and enthusiasm for the next generation so the opportunity to be a sponsor is one we couldn’t pass up,” he said.
“We enjoy giving back to the community and have been a sponsor for a few years now. We believe that corporate responsibility goes beyond business, it’s about giving young people a safe environment and we are very proud to be sponsors.”
Events start at noon on Saturday with the 4-year-old girls race. Number pick-up will be at 10am on Saturday, with the PHC majorettes and drum corps kicking the entertainment off at 11.30am before the announcement of the recipient of the scholarship award, sponsored by Skyport, takes place at 11.50am.
A children fun zone will be in operation from midday and will include fun castles, face painting, caricatures, Evolution dancers and drummers.
A food court will feature Hot Dog Delight, Bermuda Cupcake Company, Dandy Donuts and Kraftee Bermuda Burgers.
