Young triathletes to compete in Florida
Twenty young Bermudian triathletes are in Florida to compete in the prestigious Clermont Draft Legal this weekend.
Happening at Lake Louisa State Park, the Clermont Draft Legal is one of the most competitive events in the calendar and presents an opportunity for Bermuda’s budding sports stars to showcase their talent against international competitors from North and Central America as well as the Caribbean.
Speaking before departing with the last group on Thursday, national junior coach Neil De Ste Croix spoke on the team’s high expectations at the two-day event.
“The 20 young triathletes representing Team Bermuda are super excited to be going to Clermont, Florida for this year’s Draft Legal Challenge,’’ De Ste Croix said.
“This is one of the big early season events in the US and will attract a high quality field from across North America and the Caribbean.
“Our team did really well last year with several featuring in the top ten, and we have high hopes of even better this year. The athletes have trained hard with great enthusiasm and they have a fantastic team spirit.
“They are looking forward to spending time together in the team environment and supporting each other in their races. We are sure there will be some stand out performances in both races this weekend.”
Sanchez Smith, Naomi MacGuinness, Sofia Leclerc, Dylan Eiselt, Kelise Wade, and Jens Drea are some of the island’s up-and-coming stars with a lot of expectations on their shoulders.
