Staff from schools in the east and the west took part in a two-day onboarding workshop that outlined how these institutions would be turned into signature schools.

The Government’s Education Reform Unit met more than 60 school representatives to discuss how the transformation will take place, and offered a chance to answer any questions.

Crystal Caesar, the Minister of Education, also reminded attendees how much she and her ministry appreciated their commitment to assisting with education reform.

She said: “We acknowledge that education reform is a continuous learning process and we are committed to refining our approach to best serve Bermuda's students.

“Today is an opportunity to engage, collaborate and contribute to shaping the future of our education system.

“Your role is not only important — it is essential.”

The sessions covered how education reform was expected to look and how the shift will be carried out, as well as the main areas of change.

They outlined how the schools would provide “a diverse and equitable learning environment for all students".

The sessions also took educators through how the schools would be designed and how the new educational model would prepare youngsters for the future.

Staff from West End Primary School, Somerset Primary School, St George’s Preparatory School, East End Primary School and St David’s Primary School were in attendance.

Ms Caesar said that some schools would become members of School Transformation Teams, which she labelled “the driving force behind the evolution of our schools”.

She said: “Comprised of educators, parents, students, business leaders and community members, these teams will design, prototype and implement innovative teaching and learning models.”

Ms Caesar added: "The Education Reform Unit is leading 11 School Transformation Teams and 17 work streams across the island, all focused on revolutionising primary education and three senior signature schools.

“Over 150 passionate educators, parents, students and community members are working towards a shared vision that prioritises personalised, flexible, relevant, future-focused, inspiring and authentically Bermudian learning experiences.

“The path ahead is both challenging and exciting. Transformation begins today — with all of you in this room. Your voice, insights and dedication are vital to this journey.”

School teams will meet again in March, April and June to confirm the transformation teams for each school.
