Tourist injured in cycle crash

An injured American tourist had to be extricated from behind a garden wall after she crashed her rental scooter yesterday.All three emergency services attended the accident on Harbour Road, Paget, near the junction with Stowe Hill.The 55-year-old victim was taken to hospital by ambulance.According to the police, the woman lost control of her bike and flipped over the wall, but was not believed to be seriously injured.She was comforted by a companion another middle aged woman riding a separate scooter.The victim’s cries of distress could be heard from behind the wall, mixed with sound of motorists tooting their horns as they got stuck in tailbacks.Another woman motorcyclist, who did not know the victim, stopped to direct traffic.The accident happened around 3.30pm and the scene was cleared by 4pm.A King Edward VII Memorial Hospital spokeswoman said the woman remained as a patient last night. However, it was not possible to give an update on her condition by press time since she was yet to be admitted to a ward.
