Exhibition puts spotlight on student artists
A wide array of art created by students is on display now at the Bermuda Society of Arts for the 60th Annual Middle and Senior School Art Exhibition.
Shannon Rose-Robinson, the acting arts education officer, said the event showcased talent from across the island’s public and private schools.
“This impressive collection is truly a celebration of student artistry and excellence,” she said.
“Each year, we witness the profound impact our outstanding visual arts teachers have on Bermuda’s young creatives.
“Without their vision, commitment and expertise, an exhibition of this calibre would not be possible.”
Every student who participated will receive a certificate of appreciation from the Department of Education, while the People’s Choice Award will go to the middle and senior school students who receive the most votes.
Prizes are provided by the Department of Education, the Department of Cultural Affairs and sponsor Mailboxes Unlimited.
Kalmar Richards, the Commissioner of Education, said she was always excited to see the creativity on display.
“This year’s theme, ‘Expressions from Our Heart,’ beautifully captures what art is all about — a reflection of students' authentic thoughts, ideas, and emotions,” she said.
Crystal Caesar, the new Minister of Education, added: “As a passionate advocate and active participant in the arts, I am pleased to see educators nurturing a remarkable platform for student creativity.
“Such efforts undoubtedly enrich Bermuda’s vibrant cultural tapestry.”
The exhibition runs until March 11 and will be followed with a second instalment focused on the work by the island’s primary school students running from March 21 to April 7.
The Bermuda Society of Arts is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. Admission is free.
