More than 80 students and in excess of 50 professionals have participated in an annual high school speed networking event hosted by the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies.

The BFIS said the event provided students with invaluable opportunities to connect with industry professionals, gain insights into the insurance sector and build essential career skills.

The professionals taking part came from the actuarial, information technology, law, general insurance (underwriting, broking and claims), and finance/accounting areas.

“We couldn’t be more delighted to welcome students from all Bermuda’s high schools, as well as Bermuda College, for this event,” BFIS executive director Victoria Cunningham said.

“This event underscores BFIS’s commitment to fostering the next generation of talent in Bermuda’s [insurance and reinsurance] market.

“Networking is crucial for high school students’ career development because it exposes them to various career opportunities, helps develop essential soft skills, provides access to mentors and guidance, builds a professional network early on, boosts confidence through professional interactions, and keeps them informed about industry trends.”

A BFIS spokeswoman said: “BFIS student networking is made possible with strong industry support from all the insurance professionals who give up their valuable time to meet with the students and help them focus on their academic goals and career choices. Grateful thanks are extended to Axa XL and KPMG for providing this year’s venues.”

The BFIS said it has been instrumental in supporting Bermudian students through scholarships and mentorship programmes, aiming to create a well-educated pool of talent for the insurance and reinsurance market.
