A photographer for the Bermuda Government devoted his career to capturing the island’s significant events along with its heritage.

Neville Trott’s skills proved especially valuable for tourism, going back to the Bermuda News Bureau, the precursor to the Department of Communications, which exhibited photographs of visitors and island scenes to show Bermuda at its best.

Mr Trott proved an expert shot on the rifle range as well as behind the camera, competing locally and overseas as a keen member of the Bermuda Target Shooting Association and the Coral Reefs Rifle and Pistol Club.

He managed the island’s shooting team for the Commonwealth Games.

The photojournalist gladly shared his skills with young people starting out in the industry.

Nea Talbot, the director of communications, said the loss was keenly felt in the department.

She added: “All of us at the Department of Communications were very saddened to learn of the passing of our former colleague and dear friend, Mr Neville Trott.

“Neville was a gifted and talented photographer who had a warm and generous spirit.”

Ms Talbot said: “As an official photographer for the Government, he was present for some of Bermuda's most historical occasions, which included several royal visits and formal events.

“And as a Bermudian photographer, he had a truly unique and creative eye, capturing all our special moments with an artistry that spoke to the heart of Bermuda's culture, heritage and beauty.”

Mr Trott, husband of Michelle “Mickey” Trott, was father to Daren and Marissa.

Ms Talbot said that Mr Trott’s passion for photography was “matched only by his willingness to support other young photographers, selflessly sharing his knowledge and inspiring those around him”.

“More than his remarkable talent behind the lens, around our office Neville was a kind and friendly presence who always had a word of wisdom to share.

“We remember Neville Trott not only for his work, but for his talent, his work ethic and his passion for service through creativity.

“On behalf of the Department of Communications, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones and friends.

“We are thankful for his service and are gratified knowing that his legacy will carry on through his craft and his artistry.”
