Participants in the Bermuda Triple Challenge are set to brave three arduous days of obstacle courses, including surmounting a bus, in the name of good causes.

The organisation said a host of contenders, including 20 from overseas, have registered so far for the creative test of endurance.

The island-wide fundraiser is set to run from Friday through Sunday.

Officials added: “Individuals and teams of up to five participants will navigate obstacles ranging from scaling shipping containers, A-frame walls, traversing the regiment’s assault course, a 300ft water slide and even climb over one of the island’s iconic pink-and-blue buses.

“The Bermuda Triple Challenge’s unique scoring system combines points for fundraising with finishing times in order to determine who is crowned the fittest for charity.”

Jason Correia, a race director, explained: “Each year we try to offer something slightly different and mix things up.

“This year we’re looking at a revised Sunday course for the Chubb Royal Challenge starting from Lagoon Park just outside of Dockyard.”

The event has raised $500,000 for local charities since 2012 and this year’s funds will benefit Tomorrow’s Voices, Windreach Bermuda, ConnecTech Coding, Raleigh Bermuda, Family Centre’s Beyond Rugby programme and the Bermuda Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Clare Panchaud, another director, said: “The more charitable funds raised, the better positioned participants are to win, plus we have the obstacle wild card which participants can use to skip any non-mandatory obstacle during the weekend.

“Earn up to three wild cards for each $500 increment of charitable funds raised and save valuable time en route.”

The weekend kicks off with a race through St George's at 7pm, followed by a party hosted by DJ Fury.

Saturday’s Liberty Mutual island challenge starts at 8.40am at Warwick Camp, with participants heading to Lagoon Park on Sunday for the Chubb royal challenge from 9.45am.

An appreciation brunch sponsored by Take-Five Catering and Butterfield & Vallis is the weekend’s final event.
