Environmental reporting competition announced
Youngsters with an interest in environmental challenges have been invited to take part in a creative journalism competition.
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute has announced the start of its third annual Young Reporters for the Environment national competition.
This year’s competition will focus on ecosystem restoration and calls on those interested to explore the topic of their choice through writing, photography, film or a podcast.
BUEI will hold a virtual workshop on Wednesday for anyone interested in joining.
The 30 minute-long workshop, hosted by Summer Wood, BUEI’s head of education, will instruct young people aged between 11 and 25 on how to tell the most compelling stories through their chosen medium.
The workshop will also break down the competition categories and submission requirements, as well as offer a chance to answer any questions that may come about.
Entries into the YRE will be accepted between today and April 7.
Winning submissions will be entered into the Young Reporters for the Environment International Competition, which will be judged by an international jury and showcased on a larger scale.
This year’s YRE international competition has more than 450,000 students from 44 countries involved and has more than 19,000 photographs, articles and videos submitted annually.
Bermuda has landed in the overall finalist categories twice in previous YRE international competitions.
