Sylvia Oliveira named top woman by Women in Reinsurance Bermuda
Wilton Re Bermuda chief executive officer and chair, Sylvia Oliveira, has been awarded woman of the year status by Women in Reinsurance Bermuda.
Ms Oliveira received the accolade earlier this month at a gala dinner at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, organised by WiRe to highlight the contributions of women in Bermuda’s reinsurance industry.
At the dinner Ms Oliveira said: “This recognition reflects the incredible support from my Wilton Re colleagues, industry peers, and especially my family.”
She thanked her mother, Eva Martin, whose courage, lifelong learning, and persistence guided her journey.
“To all women forging paths in our industry: may we continue breaking barriers, growing together, and lighting the way for future generations,” Ms Oliveira said. “I’m committed to mentoring emerging talent and invite others to join me in this mission.”
At her firm, she established and continues to oversee the organisation’s global enterprise risk management framework, while chairing both the asset-liability management and climate change committees.
She also guides clients in optimising their value through strategic reinsurance solutions and the acquisition of in-force life insurance portfolios.
Her leadership extends across various professional and cultural organisations. She is the past chair of Young Presidents Organisation Bermuda and serves as president of the Bermuda chapter of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, an international culinary society.
She is also the founder and president of Actuaries of Bermuda, a board member of Open Airways, an active member of the CFA Society, and an accomplished violinist, performing with both the Bermuda Philharmonic and the Menuhin adult orchestra.
The dinner was a sold-out event with corporate representation from 35 reinsurance companies and related service providers.
The keynote address was offered by Sylvia Baffour, emotional intelligence expert, author of I Dare You to Care and innovator of the Dare to Care EI framework.
