Drink-driver caught three times over the limit
A driver who was pulled over by police after running a red light was more than three times over the legal blood-alcohol limit, Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.
William Porter, 25, pleaded guilty to driving while over the limit during the early hours of February 15.
The court heard that police were on mobile patrol at the corner of Front Street and Burnaby Street in Hamilton when they saw a silver car drive through a red light.
Officers pursued and stopped the vehicle.
Police arrested Porter, the driver, on suspicion on drink-driving and took him to Hamilton Police Station, where he was ordered to give a sample of breath for analysis.
The sample showed that he had 249.8 milligrams of alcohol in every 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg per 100ml.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson fined Porter, from Devonshire, $1,500 and banned him from the roads for 18 months.
