Love for Bermuda brings singing group to island’s shores
A Yale University singing company are touring Bermuda after one of its members fell in love with the island.
Although born in Bermuda, Olivia Fayemi left at the age of 3 when her parents moved to Boston.
However, she regularly visits the island and has stayed in contact with family friends.
When the Yale a cappella group, Proof of the Pudding, were looking for venues to tour, Ms Fayemi believed that Bermuda would be the ideal location.
Ms Fayemi, 20, is in her second year studying art history at the prestigious university in Connecticut.
She joined Proof of the Pudding in her freshman year and is now the business manager of the group.
She said: “We always go on two tours each year, in our winter and spring breaks.
“Normally we go somewhere that someone in the group is familiar with and has a connection to, so that we know people to call and book performances.
“For example, last year we went to Taiwan as one of our members is Taiwanese. We’ve also been to San Francisco and Washington.
“I wanted to bring everyone here to Bermuda because it’s just such a wonderful island. It’s amazing and I absolutely love it here. I come here at least once a year and it’s so nice to show everyone the island.
“It’s the little things that you might take for granted, like the beautiful views over Harrington Sound. It’s almost like second nature to me but seeing all my friends experiencing it for the first time is really lovely.”
The group of 17 all-female singers arrived on the island last Saturday and have spent the week giving concerts at several schools and hotels.
Their final performance will be at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club today before returning to Connecticut this weekend.
