Pair face charges for drugs, illegal weapons and cash
Two people have been accused of charges relating to drugs, weapons and possession of criminal property.
Chanel-Marie Bento, 43, and Shawn Simons, 46, appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning to face the accusations.
The pair were not required to enter a plea because the charges were indictable and must be heard in the Supreme Court.
They further waived their right to have the charges read aloud in Magistrates’ Court.
However, it is understood that the pair face three counts of conspiring with others to import drugs, including cannabis, between an unknown date and August 31, 2022.
It is also understood that the pair are charged with possession of heroin on August 31, 2022.
Ms Bento, from Sandys, is understood to be solely charged with two separate counts of conspiring to import cannabis between an unknown date and August 31, 2022.
She has also been charged with two counts of possession of a Taser, alleged to have happened on February 28.
Mr Simons, from Hamilton Parish, is understood to have been charged with possession of criminal money between January 1, 2020, and June 30, 2023, as well as possession of cocaine on August 31, 2022.
Magistrate Craig Attridge adjourned the case until May 1 in the Supreme Court and released the pair on $25,000 bail each.
