Primary school artists show their true colours
Artwork by the island’s primary school pupils has gone on display at the Bermuda Society of Arts Gallery at City Hall.
The 60th Annual Primary School Art Exhibition opened last Thursday and features work by pupils from all 17 public primary schools, six private schools and an alternative government school.
The exhibition theme is “Expressions from our Hearts”.
Children in the Primary 6 class at Harrington Sound Primary showcased a heartfelt tribute to the late Janet Niklaus, a former visual art educator remembered for her significant contributions to art education in Bermuda’s public school system.
Additionally, the Primary 5 class at Paget Primary presented a posthumous tribute to artist and sculptor Chesley Trott, honouring his artistic legacy.
During the opening ceremony, certificates of appreciation were presented by Kalmar Richards, the Commissioner of Education, and Shannon Rose-Robinson, the acting arts education officer.
In recognition of their contributions, teachers received membership cards to the society.
Crystal Caesar, the Minister of Education, said: “Art is far more than just part of a curriculum; it is an essential part of a child’s educational journey.
“It provides a constructive avenue for self-expression, fosters critical thinking and enhances problem-solving skills.
“It is the cornerstone of a well-rounded education, shaping confident and creative individuals ready to navigate an ever-evolving world.”
The exhibition, which runs until April 7, 2025, is free to the public.
