Man imprisoned for sexual, traffic offences
A 26-year-old man will spend almost two years behind bars for a sexual offence and a traffic offence.
Rico Pitcher pleaded guilty to having unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor and injuring a woman through careless driving during earlier appearances in Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that Pitcher, from St George’s, had intercourse with the teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, between 2018 and 2019, when he was aged between 22 and 24 and the victim was aged between 14 and 16.
The court also heard that Pitcher struck and injured Nailah Jawaheer while speeding along North Shore Road in October 2021.
Ms Jawaheer needed a partial foot amputation after the collision.
Defence lawyer Susan Mulligan argued that the crash had occurred when someone smashed Pitcher’s windshield.
Prosecutor Audley Quallo suggested on Monday that Pitcher spend between 18 and 27 months behind bars for both offences, while Ms Mulligan requested that any prison sentence be suspended.
Magistrate Tyrone Chin sentenced Pitcher yesterday to 18 months behind bars for the sexual offence, but ordered that three months of that term be suspended for one year.
Mr Chin ordered that this term be followed by 12 months in prison for careless driving, with six months of that sentence also suspended for one year.
He ordered the sentences to run consecutively and that Pitcher complete two years of probation upon release.
