St George’s Colts saved the best for last as they romped to their biggest win of the season at the expense of nine-man Dandy Town in the team’s final outing of the campaign at Wellington Oval on Sunday.

The hosts dominated an eventful Premier Division contest in front of their own fans, with Senoj Mitchell and Blaiz Hall netting four goals each, and captain Kashe Hall providing five assists.

Town were initially reduced to ten men when substitute Jahzardae Samuels walked off in frustration right after his team conceded their eighth goal.

Things then continued to go from bad to worse for Kyle Lightbourne’s team when defender Ereico Outerbridge was shown a straight red for a harsh tackle on St George’s substitute Jarreau Daniels four minutes from the final whistle.

Drewonde Bascome, the St George’s player-coach, hailed his team’s resounding victory.

“It was a good performance all around,” he told The Royal Gazette. “Proud of the boys and it was a good way to end the season.”

St George’s big win avenged two losses to Town in the league (5-1) and Friendship Trophy quarter-finals (1-0) this season.

“We owed them something,” Bascome added.

St George’s finished third in the standings in Bascome’s first season at the helm, having succeeded Jarreau Hayward, the Town assistant coach, at the beginning of the season.

“It’s been a good year. Could have been better, but it’s been a good year,” Bascome said.

“Top three feels good and I think the club has a bright future. We just have to stay grounded and keep working hard.”

Blaiz Hall, the St George’s striker, was happy to get a first hat-trick for the season under his belt.

“It feels good finally scoring more than two goals,” he said. “It feels good to get a hat-trick and one, and to help the team get the win.”

Hall anticipated St George’s would come away with a convincing win heading into the match.

“I am very confident in my team. We have a lot of chemistry and knock a lot of football together, so I expected it,” he added. “I expected like five or six.”

As for his team’s top-three finish, Hall said: “Obviously I like to compete for trophies, but finishing third place is still a good season.

“St George’s has always been a yo-yo team, so to secure third place was a positive.”

Asked to comment on his team’s performance, Town coach Lightbourne simply replied: “Humiliating.”

St George’s came charging out of the blocks with Town stopper Amir Harvey palming Mitchell’s effort on to a post while fellow winger Jahron Dickinson just failed to get a boot to Blaiz Hall’s inviting cross right in front of goal.

The hosts finally made the breakthrough when Mitchell sent Harvey the wrong way from the penalty spot after being brought down by Town defender Eusebio Blankendal as he was clean through.

The visitors conceded another penalty seven minutes later when Harvey was penalised for shoving St George’s midfielder Kurtis Minors at his near post. Hall dispatched to double the St George’s advantage.

Mitchell made it 3-0 after burying Kashe Hall’s lay-off in the area and completed his hat-trick two minutes later when he tapped in the former’s low cross from the right.

Town coach Lightbourne made a double substitution to try and stop the rot but St George’s continued to dominate with Mitchell and Kashe Hall both testing Harvey, who was equal to the task.

The visitors pulled one back against the run of the play when winger Tavez Smith, son of late St George’s cricketer Travis Smith, buried fellow substitute Samuel’s corner in heavy traffic from close range.

St George’s goalkeeper Jahquil Hill was then forced to rush off his line to block Town forward David Jones Jr’s effort at the near post.

Jones immediately picked up where he left off at the start of the second half by again forcing Hill into making a save at the near post.

The visitors also had an appeal for a penalty ignored after Samuels went down in the area under a challenge from St George’s defender Jonas Schroder, who injured his right foot in the process and was replaced.

Jones then blasted over after some good work by Samuels while at the other end Outerbridge cleared Mitchell’s goal-bound effort off the line as the game opened up a bit.

Blaiz Hall made it 5-1 with a composed finish after being sent in the clear by his brother Kashe’s through pass.

Mitchell then grabbed his fourth goal of the match with Kashe Hall again providing the assist as the hosts opened the floodgates wider.

St George’s went close again when Dickinson struck the post after pouncing on Town defender Matao Issac’s wayward headed clearance.

Jones pulled another goal back for Town when he ran on to substitute Smith’s long ball and used his strength to hold off his marker before beating Hill at the near post to make it 6-2.

However, Blaiz Hall netted his third goal to complete his hat-trick and added another inside of a minute, with midfielder Quadir Maynard and sibling Kashe providing the assists, to stop Town’s late revival dead in its tracks.

The visitors woes were then further compounded after Samuels bailed on his team-mates and Outerbidge received his marching orders.
