A killer who shot his friend in the back three times is to have his sentence reconsidered this month.

Kevin Warner, 24, was jailed for at least 35 years in July 2011 for murdering Dekimo (Purple) Martin.

Mr Martin was gunned down in the backyard of his family home in Sandys in May 2010.

Warner appeared at this yesterday’s arraignments session at Supreme Court in front of Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons.

A date for him to be resentenced was set for August 25.

The move follows a ruling by the Privy Council in London in October that courts cannot impose minimum sentences for premeditated murder of more than 25 years.

Also at arraignments, a trial date was set for attempted murder accused Devon Hewey, 25, and Cervio Cox, 31.

The men, both from Warwick, deny assisting in the March 2012 attempted killing of Lavon Thomas outside Shine’s nightclub on Reid Street.

The pair will stand trial on September 22.

Murder accused Wolda Gardner was ordered to appear before the court again on October 10 to set a date for trial.

Mr Gardner denies charges of premeditated murder and using a firearm in relation to the killing of Malcolm Augustus, 21, who was shot dead in St George’s on Christmas Day 2012.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney said the Crown was hopeful to have a co-accused extradited back to Bermuda from the UK.

Patrick Stamp is accused of being involved in the murder of Mr Augustus but is appealing the extradition order.

Mr Gardner blasted prosecutors for further delaying setting a trial date.

“The Crown keeps saying to me they’re bringing me to the stand,” he told Judge Simmons. “The Crown is misleading this court.”

Gun killer Julian Washington, 24, was told to reappear before the court on August 25 for sentencing.

He was found guilty in May of the premeditated murder of father-of-one Stefan Burgess, 24, who was shot at a birthday party at a home on Glebe Road in January 2012.

Washington was also found guilty of attempting to murder Devano Bremer, who was shot in the groin.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Tymothy Scraders, 25, who failed to appear before the court.

He has been accused of two counts of causing injury by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of a collision.

Eight people charged with conspiring to supply more than 100 kilograms of cannabis were ordered to appear before the court for mention on August 26.

Corte Gibbons, Iman Gibbons, Damon Edwards, John Jefferis, Darrin Virgil, Shannon Trott, Dina Tucker, and Brian Anderson will have their bail extended.

Mr Jefferis, of Hamilton, said he intended to “challenge the jurisdiction of this court”.

Chanel Smith, Vanessa Blyden, and Dyshantee Crockwell, were told to appear for mention on August 15, so a trial date could be set.

Ms Smith denies wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding and possessing a machete in relation to an attack in November.

Ms Blyden and Ms Crockwell deny charges of assault, causing bodily harm and unlawful wounding.

Kenith Bulford, of Sandys, will stand trial on October 20 on charges of laundering more than $300,000 in cash.

He is accused of being found in possession of $316,950 which was the proceeds of crime.

Mr Bulford’s bail was extended.
