Katherine Bean-Rosario makes switch to Hampton University
Bermuda under-20 women’s football team captain Katherine Bean-Rosario has made a switch from Monroe College to Hampton University.
The move, confirmed by the player on Wednesday, means the talented footballer will play in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I after competing for Monroe University at National Junior College Athletic Association Division I level.
At Hampton, Bean-Rosario will be in a four-year programme under the mentorship of Scot Vorwold, who took over as Pirates coach in January 2024. She is expected to link up with her new team-mates in Virginia for pre-season training in August.
“I am beyond grateful to officially announce my commitment to play Division I soccer and further my education at Hampton University,’’ Bean-Rosario announced on Instagram.
“Thank you to coach OC [Ousmane Camara] and coach Scot for this amazing opportunity. Most importantly, I want to thank the man above and everyone who has supported me throughout my journey, I hope I’ve made you all proud.”
“When the time is right, l the Lord will make it happen, Isaiah 60:22.’’
In her only year at Monroe, the 18-year-old was named in the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer All-American Third Team.
That recognition came after she finished as top scorer for the New Rochelle-based Mustangs with 14 goals in 12 matches in the East District Championship. Her achievements earned her a place among the best 33 players named by the NJCAA women’s soccer committee in December.
According to the NJCAA’s points system, Bermuda’s rising star, who also contributed four assists in 700 minutes of action, accumulated 32 points.
Bean-Rosario, an equally talented all-round cricketer who played for Leeward Islands women’s team at West Indies Rising Stars Women's Under-19 Championship in Trinidad last summer, was honoured with a female junior achievement accolade at the 43rd Annual Government Sports Awards last month.
