Regiment offers scholarships to college recruits
The Royal Bermuda Regiment has launched a scholarship fund to support would-be recruits attending Bermuda College.
According to a regiment spokesman, the fund will assist “future leaders with academic promise” who need financial support through their studies.
The award provides full tuition for up to four students annually who are pursuing a certificate, diploma or associate degree at the college.
In addition to their academic studies, recipients are expected to serve in a paid, part-time capacity within the regiment, gaining practical experience in leadership and resource management while also providing a service to the general public.
Major Dwight Robinson, the regiment’s career management officer, said: “We are investing in Bermuda’s future by supporting young people who are committed to excellence and community service.
“Our goal is to develop the next generation of leaders — individuals who not only excel in their academic pursuits but also understand the value of public service and national duty.
“With concurrent studies, there is a need for balance. Awardees will be supported by their chain of command and through careful scheduling to ensure that their training and academic priorities do not compete.
“The regiment is committed to working with students and Bermuda College to provide flexibility and structure that promotes success in both areas.”
The scholarship offers full tuition to Bermuda College and is open to Bermudian nationals aged between 18 and 25.
Four students will be selected to receive the award, which they may hold for up to two years.
In addition to academic eligibility, recipients are required to serve part-time in the regiment for a term of three years and two months, taking part in up to 45 training days annually, including one mandatory two-week camp.
The application period opened on April 7 and closes on June 1.
