Students attending a career fair at CedarBridge Academy were given an insight into working for the Government.

Staff from the Ministry of Public Works and Environment were on hand to highlight a range of skilled trades employed by the ministry.

According to a government spokesman, the Department of Employee and Organisational Development invited ministry representatives “to connect with students, spark interest in public service careers and promote roles that are traditionally harder to fill”.

The ministry set up a booth representing diverse disciplines including estates, engineering, architecture, and trades with a focus on highways, and water and sewage engineering.

The ministry’s key objectives were to build and strengthen student-professional relationships, provide students with experiential activities and encourage them to work in the ministry.

The booth featured interactive demonstrations simulating a typical day in various professions. These included activities related to water treatment plant operations, traffic management planning, infrastructure development, estates and the built environment.

Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works and Environment, said: "It’s incredibly important that our young people see the vast opportunities available within Public Service.

“Events like this give students real insight into meaningful careers that directly contribute to the quality of life in Bermuda.

“Public works may not always be front of mind for students, but when they learn about engineering, water management, infrastructure design and all the skilled trades involved, you can see the light bulbs go on. That’s the magic of hands-on exposure.”

According to the spokesman, ministry representatives noted genuine interest from students, who asked insightful questions about engineering and trade professions, as well as internship and career opportunities.

The spokesman said: “Overall, the event was a tremendous success and a valuable opportunity for the ministry to invest in Bermuda’s future workforce.

“By showcasing real-world applications of public sector careers, the ministry continues its commitment to empowering the next generation through education, inspiration and opportunity.”
